Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, has been criticised for subsidising "wealthy Americans" after pledging £75,000 to fund a "USA Day" celebrating American culture. The mayor's office said USA Day was designed to attract wealthy American tourists to the capital.

How is "USA Day" going to attract wealthy American tourists - they come here to enjoy the unique London experience. Would wealthy London tourists travel to New York if they were holding an "England Day"?
Actually, I'm not at all against London marking and appreciating the contributions of America to its cultural evolution and social mix. The question is, of course, which contributions? Here's one idea. Here's another.
