Boris Johnson marries Carrie Symonds in secret ceremony

Boris Johnson married his partner Carrie Symonds in a small ceremony yesterday, Downing Street has confirmed.

The couple plan to have a larger celebration with friends and family next summer, a statement said.

Due to coronavirus rules, only 30 people were allowed to attend the wedding at Westminster Cathedral.

Mr Johnson becomes the first Prime Minister to be married while in office since 1822.

Ms Symonds is a former Conservative Party communications chief and worked with Mr Johnson while he was Mayor of London.

They got engaged in December 2019, and have a child Wilfred, aged one.

It is Mr Johnson's third marriage.

The couple had previously sent out save-the-date cards to guests telling them to keep Saturday, July 30, 2022 free for a marriage celebration.

A spokesman for No10 Downing Street said: "The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds were married yesterday afternoon in a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral.

"The couple will celebrate their wedding with family and friends next summer."
