Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said the Government is looking at reducing the time fully-vaccinated people who test positive for Covid-19 need to stay in self-isolation.
Mr Johnson was speaking at a vaccination centre in Uxbridge, West London, saying: “There’s a similar argument to be had about the quarantine period – whether to come down from seven days to five days.
“The thing to do is to look at the science. We are looking at that and we will act according to the science.”
At the moment, people can come out of self-isolation earlier than 10 days if they test negative on lateral flow tests on days six and seven.
There have been calls for this to be reduced to five days because of the impact on businesses and essential services such as the NHS and schools.
During his visit today, Mr Johnson stressed the need for people who have so far refused a booster jab to “join the movement” and get a vaccination.
He said: "The number of people who have been boosted is 36 million, 90% of over-50s have been done but there are still millions who need to do it.
“Loads of people have had two jabs but they haven’t yet come forward for their boost and I say to everybody: join the movement.”
