Boris Johnson joins LinkedIn as he pledges to 'connect more directly' with businesses

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has joined business social networking site LinkedIn.

The PM, the latest world leader to join the site, launched his account pledging to "connect more directly" with businesses as "we build back better, stronger than ever before".

In his LinkedIn bio, Mr Johnson describes himself as: "Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip. Leader of the Conservative Party".

In a video to his followers, he said: "I just wanted to let you know that I'm now on LinkedIn.

"And that's because businesses of all sizes are vital to this country, and I want to connect more directly with you as we build back better, stronger than ever before.

"I know how difficult this whole pandemic has been for businesses and of course we're not through it yet.

"But I also know that the ingenuity, dynamism, entrepreneurial spirit of businesses in our United Kingdom will enable us to bounce back better, greener, stronger than before."

Mr Johnson follows fellow world leaders including Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanual Macron in joining the site.

Listed in the 'Experience' section of his profile are roles including Mayor of London, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, and MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip - however there is no mention of his work as a journalist before going into politics.

At the time of writing, Mr Johnson had around 385 followers.
