Boris Johnson issues update on six coronavirus rules ahead of lockdown speech

Boris Johnson has published six rules ahead of his announcement on Sunday night.

The Prime Minister tweeted the advice on Sunday hours ahead of his announcement mapping how lockdown will end.

In his tweet, he said: "Everyone has a role to play in helping to control the virus by staying alert and following the rules. This is how we can continue to save lives as we start to recover from coronavirus."

In the rules, he urged people to:

  • Stay at home as much as possible
  • Work from home if you can
  • Limit contact with other people
  • Keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)
  • Wash your hands regularly

The tweet comes after it was revealed the UK government has changed its "stay home, save lives, protect the NHS" motto to "stay alert, control the virus, save lives."

But Welsh Health Minister Vaughan Gething said there was no "four nations agreement or discussion" on the change.

In a tweet, he said: "I've seen the media briefings and changed message for England. There has not been a four nations agreement or discussion on this.

"The Welsh Government message has not changed. Stay at home and if you do go out observe the social distancing rules".

In a tweet Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "The Sunday papers is the first I've seen of the PM's new slogan. It is of course for him to decide what's most appropriate for England, but given the critical point we are at in tackling the virus, #StayHomeSaveLives remains my clear message to Scotland at this stage."

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announces a £2bn government package to put cycling and walking 'at the heart of transport policy'

On Friday, First Minister Mark Drakeford extended the lockdown  by three weeks but eased a number of rules.

They include allowing people to exercise locally more than once a day and allowing garden centres to re-open if they are able to put 2m social distancing rules in place.

Regulations will also be charged to allow local authorities to begin planning how to safely re-open libraries and recycling centres.

On Sunday, Boris Johnson is expected to make a similar set of announcements.

Mr Johnson will set out a five-tier warning system for the coronavirus in England as part of the government's plans to begin slowly easing lockdown measures.

It is understood the system - with alerts ranging from level one (green) to level five (red) - is similar to the one used to inform the public about the terror threat level.
