The concepts of honour and integrity are clearly alien to Boris Johnson.
The Prime Minister’s apology was not just insufficient and hollow, it was yet another insult to the British people.
Mr Johnson had previously claimed there were no parties in No 10 and no rules had been broken. Only after intense pressure did he admit finally yesterday that not only was there a party but he attended it.
To have misled the public in this way should be a resignation offence.
Instead of doing the decent thing, we had the pathetic spectacle of a Prime Minister using a weasel formulation of words as he desperately tried to save his own skin.
This was not a genuine display of remorse. He feigned contrition for mistakes others might have made but failed to say sorry for his own conduct.
The public made incredible sacrifices during lockdown. Many were not allowed to attend the funerals of their loved ones or visit relatives in care homes.
The fact he still cannot admit he broke the rules only underlines why he’s unfit for office.
End the misery
Nobody should be forced to choose between heating and eating. But that is the choice some pensioners are having to make because of the rise in fuel bills.
Other OAPs are skipping showers, cancelling trips out and sleeping in hats and coats as they struggle to make ends meet.
This situation will only get worse when energy firms raise prices again this spring.
If this Government genuinely cared about the older generation it would have taken steps to help them. Instead they voted down Labour’s call for a 5% cut on energy bills.
