This dishonest Tory Government has been on a PR drive to convince voters they care about the poor and the vulnerable.
Boris Johnson made inroads into knocking down Labour’s “red wall” at the general election and he hopes to change British politics forever.
But his crass comments on pit closures in the 80s, made during a trip to Scotland, confirm his ambition is one big con.
In a bizarre attempt at showing how the UK is moving towards a “net zero” economy, he claimed Margaret Thatcher had made progress by closing so many coal mines.
He even laughed as he said it – a sign of the contempt he has for miners.
His appalling remarks show he does not understand the pain inflicted during the 80s.
The strike led to huge unemployment and caused massive economic damage that is still felt to this day.
Workers were thrown on the scrapheap and whole communities were left to rot.
Even worse, some miners who protested received criminal records after getting fitted up by the police.
Thatcher’s war against the miners had everything to do with an ideological crusade against one community and nothing to do with climate change.
Johnson’s failure to apologise yesterday for his ignorant statement is further proof of his unsuitability for office.
People should remember his comments when they next get the chance to choose the UK Government.
Let’s hope voters have the last laugh and kick this chancer out of office.
