Boris Johnson had his first sit-down interview since the General Election with BBC Breakfast on Tuesday morning.
Mr Johnson defended his role during the tensions with Iran after facing criticism for not returning from his holiday immediately.
"I was not in this country but I worked very hard, as you can imagine, in making sure there was a European response," he told the BBC.
Dan Walker probed: "Were you on holiday? You were on holiday, weren't you?"
Mr Johnson replied: "I was, I was. It’s no secret, it’s no secret and we got a good European response to the crisis we worked with the Americans and with, of course, we talked to the Iranians."
The Prime Minister added he "did not envisage" any escalation in the tensions between the US and Iran and he was "glad" Iran had acknowledged it made a "terrible mistake" in shooting down the Ukrainian passenger plane last week.
Mr Walker asked about Meghan and Prince Harry's decision to step down from their senior roles in the Royal Family.
"My view on this is very straightforward: I am a massive fan - like most of our viewers - of the Queen and the royal family as a fantastic asset for our country," said Mr Johnson.
"I'm absolutely confident that they are going to sort this out," he added.
But he said it would be "easier" for them to resolve the issues without a running commentary from him.
