Boris Johnson has hired a celebrity personal trainer to help him work off the pounds after his near-death experience with Covid-19.
The Prime Minister’s secret was revealed when he was spotted running with fitness expert Harry Jameson near Westminster this morning by Evening Standard photographer Jeremy Selwyn.
A No10 source admitted: “Yes, he has engaged a personal trainer. I can confirm it is Harry Jameson. It’s because he is really serious about getting fit, as anyone who has seen him over the past couple of months knows. Boris is raring to go.”
The Prime Minister has blamed being overweight for the severity of his illness when he contracted coronavirus in March and had to be treated in intensive care.
Downing Street also yesterday had to deny claims that he might quit in six months because of the toll of the disease.
The claim was reportedly made by Sir Humphry Wakefield, who is the father-in-law of his close aide Dominic Cummings.
Today’s exclusive photographs may help convince some doubters that Mr Johnson is getting back to vigorous health. Looking slimmer than before his illness, he looked out of breath next to Mr Jameson, who is London-based with clients among the rich and famous.
During lockdown Mr Jameson did an Instagram Live workout session with Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore, while he has also worked with Hollywood actor Dolph Lundgren and former England footballer Wayne Bridge.
His online celebrity followers include Professor Green and chefs Tom Sellers, Neil Rankin and Calum Franklin.
He is also followed by fitness names including Shona Vertue, who works with David Beckham. Jameson is represented by sports talent agency 10ten. His agent today confirmed: “Yes that is him,” when shown the images of the pair working out.
