Boris Johnson 'had to guess his son's birthday three times' in awkward chat with voter

Boris Johnson had to guess his own son's birthday three times in an awkward chat with voters, a new profile of the Prime Minister reveals today.

The hapless Tory leader and dad-of-at-least-six was campaigning in the Hartlepool by-election when he fumbled over Wilfred's first birthday.

Mr Johnson's baby with Carrie, now his wife, was born on April 29 last year - in the thick of the first wave of the Covid pandemic.

According to a major profile in The Atlantic, the Prime Minister "elbow-bumped" two toddlers on the campaign trail and asked their ages.

But he then "struggled to remember precisely when his own son would turn 1.

"The mothers laughed as he fumbled for the right date - guessing three times before he got it right."

The Conservatives smashed Labour's majority to win Hartlepool for the first time in more than half a century, despite a frosty reception from some.

The profile reveals one retired couple told the Prime Minister they were furious about his handling of Covid - including his failure to close the border.

But at other houses he was praised and thanked for "everything you've done".

The Atlantic profile focuses mostly on Boris Johnson's true character and whether his chaotic public image is deliberately crafted.

The profile also claims he told US President Joe Biden he disliked the phrase "special relationship", seeing it as "needy and weak".

The revelation - sourced to an aid of the Prime Minister - could be embarrassing for Mr Johnson as he prepares for his first meeting with Biden this week at the G7 summit in Cornwall.

The Prime Minister has always refused to say how many children he has, but it is known to be at least six.

Mr Johnson split from wife Marina Wheeler. The couple, who married in 1993, have four children together - Lara, Milo Arthur, Cassia Peaches, and Theodore Apollo.

He also had Wilfred last year with Carrie Symonds, who he married this month in Westminster Cathdral.

But he has also had multiple affairs, including the one with Petronella Wyatt (above) which led to a pregnancy that was terminated.

And a 2013 court ruling said the public were entitled to know about claims that one affair - with art consultant Helen Macintyre - resulted in a daughter who was his.

The child's family had sought to stop the father being named. But the Court of Appeal said: “The core information in this story, namely that the father had an adulterous affair with the mother, deceiving both his wife and the mother's partner and that the claimant, born about nine months later, was likely to be the father's child, was a public interest matter which the electorate was entitled to know when considering his fitness for high public office."

Last month claims emerged that a Tory donor was asked to fund a nanny for Boris Johnson's baby because the Prime Minister can't survive on his £157,372-a-year salary.

The donor is alleged to have moaned to an MP: "I don't mind paying for leaflets but I resent being asked to pay to literally wipe the Prime Minister's baby's bottom."

A No 10 spokeswoman said: "The Prime Minister has covered the cost of all childcare."

But she failed to say if a Tory donor was initially asked to pay for a nanny for Wilfred - who he had with fiancee Carrie Symonds last year and is at least his sixth child. And she did not respond when asked if the PM paid for the original bill or had reimbursed somebody else.
