Boris Johnson gets price of a Greggs sausage roll massively wrong on live radio

Boris Johnson today massively overinflated the cost of a Greggs sausage roll in a car crash radio moment.

The millionaire Tory leader claimed the hot treat cost £1.90 - despite even the Westminster branch, in expensive central London, charging £1.20. Other parts of the country charge less.

Millionaire Mr Johnson, who once described his £250,000 columnist's salary as "chicken feed", was humiliated on national radio after boasting about how much he loved the pastry chain.

He told the Eastern Daily Press this week: "Have I ever not had a Greggs?! I am made of Greggs!"

But today he blustered when asked how much a Greggs sausage roll actually cost.

He told LBC radio: "Oh god, err, I don't know, umm, I give up."

Astonished host Nick Ferrari said: "You have no idea? You just told me you're 'made of Greggs'. You must eat their sausage rolls all the time."

Mr Johnson shrugged: "I don't know. £1.90. I have no idea."

Mr Ferrari replied: "It's a pound."

Mr Johnson did insist however: "I've also eaten [long pause] vegan sausage rolls. Have you eaten a vegan sausage roll? They're not bad."

The news will amuse online supporters of Jeremy Corbyn - who use Greggs as a symbol of British pride.

"Nationalise Greggs" is a jokey rallying cry while the bakery's name was lent to a WhatsApp group co-ordinating messages supportive of the Labour leader.
