Boris Johnson expects football fans back in stadiums from October in England

Boris Johnson expects fans to be back in football stadiums from October in England, as he continues to ease lockdown measures.

Football was temporarily suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic and didn't return until 100 days later in June.

Fans have been banned from stadiums since its return, but British Prime Minister Johnson expects this to change within the next three months.

On Friday morning, Johnson held a press conference to announce further easing of lockdown measures.

He said: "From October we intend to bring back audiences in stadiums. In a Covid secure way subject to the successful outcome of pilots."

Additionally, Bowling alleys, casinos, beauty salons  and skating rinks will all be allowed to reopen from August 1, with wedding receptions of up to 30 people also allowed.

The current Premier League season concludes on July 26 and the 2020/21 campaign is set to start in the second week of August.

This means, going by Johnson's guidelines, that fans will not be allowed in stadiums initially when football returns.

They will be allowed back however after two months, although how the process will be handled is guess work at this point.

Clubs will likely work with the FA to draw up plans ahead of bringing supporters back into the mix, with social distancing in the stands a likely option.
