Boris Johnson expected to announce new Tier 4 and Christmas lockdown changes

It is reported that Boris Johnson is set to announce London and some part of the South East will go into a tougher Tier 4.

It is expected that at today's coronavirus press conference the Prime Minister will tell the nation of the new restrictions due to a rise in coronavirus infections.

According to reports, Boris and the government discussed a new tougher Tier for the regions where infections are growing and the new varient of coronavirus during the emergency talks.

The BBC's Laura Kuenssberg tweeted: "Cabinet members have been briefed that the PM expected to announce a Tier 4, tighter covid restrictions for London and SE at 4pm this afternoon - and will cut back on the planned relaxation of the rules over Christmas."

The Mirror reports that the Prime Minister could also order new travel restrictions for South East England in an attempt to stop it spreading to the rest of the country.

Boris Johnson will hold a press conference with Prof Whitty and the Government's chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance at 4pm today to discuss the changes.
