Boris Johnson: Downing Street rejects accusation PM has naps at work

Downing Street has rejected a report that Boris Johnson clears time in his diary for a nap.

The Prime Minister’s press secretary Allegra Stratton told reporters: “The Prime Minister does not have a nap. These reports are untrue.”

She spoke after 'a Downing Street insider' who 'knows the Prime Minister well' told The Times “it would not be entirely uncommon in the diary for him to shut the door and have a kip for half an hour or so — a power executive business nap to get him ready for the rest of the day”.

But Ms Stratton, his new press secretary and former Newsnight reporter, rejected this.

She said: “He does not have a nap during the day when he is in Downing Street… his day is jam-packed from early in the morning through to late at night.”

The Times said this morning that at 6am each day the PM goes jogging in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, before reading the papers and messaging colleagues over breakfast.

“He keeps his own time,” an official was quoted as telling the Times.
