Boris Johnson Downing Street press conference to be held today

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to hold another press conference from Downing Street this evening.

Downing Street confirmed the press conference line-up on January 7 will include NHS England chief executive Sir Simon Stevens but not Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

During the announcement, Mr Johnson is expected to unveil the government's plan to vaccinate the most vulnerable people in the UK against Covid-19 by mid-February by mobilising the Army.

In a press conference on Tuesday (January 5), the Prime Minister promised he would give an update on the vaccination rollout and said the Army would be heavily involved.

Mr Johnson will announce his plans for the vaccination programme, which he said will mean the 13 million most vulnerable people will be vaccinated by February 15.

Mr Johnson also promised there would be "tens of millions" of vaccine doses delivered in the next three months.

People will require two doses of the vaccine to be fully protected.

The Prime Minister wasn't able to give exact details of how many people would be vaccinated every week once this new plan is up and running, but said that he hoped for two million vaccinations a week target.

This afternoon's press conference will likely begin at 5pm from Downing Street.

The conference will undoubtedly follow the usual structure of previous press conferences, where the Prime Minister will give a brief speech, a medical officer will break down the most recent data, and then the entire panel will take questions from the press and the public.
