Boris Johnson confirms introduction of vaccine passports - what it means for Leeds United fans

Leeds United supporters will have to show either proof of a double Covid-19 vaccine or a negative lateral flow test to attend matches following updated government guidelines.

Due to the rise of positive cases in the United Kingdom, further restrictions have been implemented.

This means that fans attending sporting events where there will be more than 10,000 people in attendance will have to show their NHS Covid Pass or a negative lateral flow test.

The arrival of the Omnicron variant to the UK has forced Boris Johnson to turn to ‘Plan B’ to limit the increasing spread of positive Covid-19 cases.

He confirmed the news on Wednesday evening amid the ongoing reports accusing him and other government ministers of breaking the strict lockdown rules that they enforced last year.

The rule regarding entry to football stadia will come into effect from Wednesday, December 15.

That means that the first Leeds game to be affected will be the visit of Arsenal to Elland Road on Saturday, December 18. It will not affect this weekend's clash with Chelsea or the visit to Manchester City next Tuesday.

The other main restriction that has been re-introduced, the wearing of masks in most indoor settings, will be enforced from Friday.

Where possible, people have also been urged to work from home.
