Boris Johnson has confirmed that the UK government has introduced coronavirus 'Plan B' restrictions that will have a huge impact on all Premier League clubs and their fans.
Last season saw fans forced to stay away from matches due to a ban on large crowds, barring a few trial matches towards the end of the campaign, but they have returned in their thousands in 2021-22.
However, the match-going experience is set to change from next week as fears grow surrounding the more transmissible Omicron variant of COVID-19.
Restrictions implemented include guidance to work from home where possible, mandatory masks in most indoor settings (starting Friday) and COVID-19 vaccination passes - or negative lateral flow tests - required for nightclubs and large venues (starting next Wednesday).
These are in addition to the recent announcement that face masks must be worn when using public transport and shops.
The new rules mean the introduction of vaccine passports for events with over 10,000 people in attendance, meaning they will be needed to enter the Emirates Stadium, Stamford Bridge and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from Wednesday of next week.
Exemptions are in place for anyone under the age of 17, as well as those who are unable to get the vaccine for medical purposes.
Nevertheless, if you are unvaccinated and wish to attend a game in the coming weeks, proof of a negative lateral flow test will be sufficient.
Arsenal play West Ham at the Emirates Stadium a week from today, whilst Crystal Palace host Southampton at Selhurst Park. Watford also travel to Burnley. All three games are expected to follow the new protocol as described.
