'Boris Johnson clings on to office but his authority is gone after Partygate fine'

Humiliated and repeatedly denounced as a lawbreaking liar, battered rogue Boris Johnson 's a busted flush.

The forensic fury of chief prosecutor Keir Starmer punched a huge hole in a visibly deflating Prime Minister.

The guilty Conservative scammer was nailed in a brutal, immense performance on angry forensic dissection from the Labour leader.

Glum faces on the Tory benches signalled private agreement among many Conservative MPs with one of their own, Mark Harper, when the ex-Chief Whip pronounced his party's leader as unworthy of the Premiership.

So Johnson grimly clings to office but his authority's gone, shot, over.

Putin spared him yet more party fines, bad local elections next month and a public backlash against a worsening cost of living crisis and he could be toppled by revolting MPs.

Starmer and Labour understandably salivate over a tantalisingly juicy scalp.

Johnson limping on, badly wounded, might be the better result.

The long charge sheet read out by Starmer set out election battle lines in Labour's favour.

Insisting he's stupid not a liar was Johnson revealing why he's no longer a vote winner.

The PM wanting his birthday cake and eating it isn't bought by the electoral majority calling for him to resign.

And Starmer sneering “what a joke” at the PM is Westminster laughing at rather than with the dishonest charlatan.

The downfall of Rishi Sunak removed an immediate threat to Johnson.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi and ex-Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt are all still touted as possible replacements.

Deceitful Johnson's a liability for the Tories and does destroy those close to him.

That he represents Britain is intolerably shaming.

Ukraine's an excuse not a reason to leave the lying lawbreaker in post.

Britain changed PM's in the First World War and twice in the Second.

Starmer's brilliant destruction of Johnson will have worried Tory MPs.

Johnson is stripped bare and the puny PM hasn't a moral mole hill to stand on, the political ground shifting under his feet.
