Boris Johnson caught a train from Manchester Victoria this morning - but it was delayed

Boris Johnson experienced a typical day of commuting in the north this morning when he was stuck on a delayed train.

The Prime Minister was spotted waiting for a train at Manchester Victoria station earlier today.

However, unlike most normal commuters, Mr Johnson was accompanied by a police escort.

It is understood he caught a First Transpennine Express train travelling to York, but there was a hiccup which meant the train was delayed around 25 minutes.

Passengers complained they were being held behind the late train carrying the Prime Minister.

Laura Jane Murphy tweeted: "Currently being held behind the late train carrying @BorisJohnson which is delaying ours. Oh, the irony."

According to another commuter there were 15 trains travelling from Manchester Victoria cancelled this morning - with the Conservative leader being treated to a standard day of public transport delays in the north.

Mr Johnson was in Salford yesterday to participate in a televised debate alongside opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn.

The Prime Minister was also seen on the campaign trail in Wythenshawe and paid a visit to Jimmy Egan's Boxing Academy.

First Transpennine Express have been contacted by the M.E.N for a comment.
