Sajid Javid has blasted Boris Johnson for imposing unacceptable "conditions" after he quit as Chancellor in a day of drama in the PM's Cabinet reshuffle.
The former Chancellor said the conditions - including the demand that Mr Javid sack his closest aides - would have been rejected by “any self-respecting minister”.
Elsewhere, Julian Smith was unceremoniously dumped as Northern Ireland secretary, while Andrea Leadsom was sacked as business secretary and Theresa Villiers lost her job as environment secretary.
Tory rising star Rishi Sunak, who has been chief secretary to the Treasury, has been confirmed as Mr Javid's replacement, in Mr Johnson's first reshuffle since his landslide election victory in December.
