A group of protesters wearing Andrew Neil masks and carrying chicken signs greeted Boris Johnson with boos as he visited a fish market this morning.

The Prime Minister was on a visit to Grimsby in the north-east England as the general election campaign entered its last few days.

Market workers holding placards heckled him while he chatted to merchants and posed with fish.

One campaigner held a sign which read: "Hope Not Tories".

Others stood holding pictures of BBC presenter Andrew Neil's over their faces, along with makeshift microphones emblazoned with the broadcaster's logo.

They also held aloft images of chickens in reference to Mr Johnson's refusal to take part in a one-to-one interview with Mr Neil.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and the leaders of every other opposition party agreed to a sit-down with the veteran journalist.

The fishing industry is a key part of Grimsby's economy and its decline is what is believed to have caused the majority of the town to vote for Brexit.

Cheers could be heard as Mr Johnson posed for selfies along his tour.

The Tory leader has begun a three-day tour of the Labour heartlands to convince voters to switch allegiances.

Mr Corbyn will visit Bristol today at the start of his last leg of campaigns before the UK heads to the polls on December 12.
