Boris Johnson boasts of new diet with 'no late-night cheese' after losing a stone

Boris Johnson has boasted of his new diet giving up "late-night cheese" after he lost a stone in weight.

The Tory leader spoke of his ongoing weight battle today after experts highlighted links between obesity and coronavirus deaths.

The Prime Minister, 56, embarked on a strict exercise regime after nearly dying from Covid-19 last spring.

Now, he hopes to persuade tubby Brits to shed pounds and get fit.

About 63% of adults in England are overweight or obese and one in three children starting secondary school are considered overweight.

In a jerky 81-second video posted on Twitter, apparently self-filmed as he walked through No10 Downing Street the once-porky Premier said: “I've been doing a lot, in fact, everything I can, to lose weight and to feel fitter and healthier.

"What I've been doing is I've been eating less carbs, avoiding chocolate, no more late-night cheese – all that kind of thing.

"I've been getting up early to go for runs and the result is I actually have lost some weight – quite a lot by my standards – and I feel much more energetic, I feel full of beans, and I thoroughly recommend it."

His Press Secretary Allegra Stratton later said the PM has lost around a stone, but "I haven't asked him" what he weighs now.

She added: "He might have lost more than that, I think he’s being modest."
