Boris Johnson and wife Carrie announce name of baby girl alongside first pic

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and wife Carrie have released the first picture of their new daughter and revealed her unusual name.

The baby girl's name has been revealed as Romy Iris Charlotte Johnson, the Mirror reports.

Carried posted a photo of the second-born with her husband and wrote: "Romy after my aunt, Rosemary Iris from the Greek, meaning rainbow

"Charlotte after Boris’ late mum whom we miss so much."

Little Romy was born on Thursday, December 9 at 9.02am and is the youngest sister to one-year-old Winfred.

The baby's birth was announced last week shortly after the couple tied the knot in May.

A spokeswoman for the couple said: "The Prime Minister and Mrs Johnson are delighted to announce the birth of a healthy baby girl at a London hospital earlier today.

"Both mother and daughter are doing very well.

"The couple would like to thank the brilliant NHS maternity team for all their care and support."

It is understood that Mr Johnson was present throughout the whole birth.

It now means that the Prime Minister has at least seven children: Lara, Milo, Cassia and Theodore with ex-wife Marina Wheeler; Stephanie after an affair in 2009; and Wilfred and the new baby girl with current wife Carrie.

Labour leader Keir Starmer sent his congratulations to the couple.

He tweeted: "Congratulations to Carrie and Boris Johnson on the birth of their daughter.

“Wishing your family health and happiness.”

While there has been years of speculation over how many children Mr Johnson has, he has always refused to give details on his private life.

But in September, he somewhat confirmed that he had six children in an interview during his trip to New York.

Asked by NBC's Today show if he has six children, the Prime Minister replied: "Yes".

He added: "It’s fantastic, it’s fantastic, it’s a lot of work, I’ll tell you that much, but I love it, I absolutely love it. And I change a lot of nappies, in case anybody… I do."
