Boris Johnson has had his first phone call with Joe Biden after his win in the US presidential election.
The Prime Minister congratulated the Democrat in his victory over Donald Trump.
Mr Johnson said he spoke to Mr Biden on "shared priorities" amid concerns the pair may not have a smooth relationship due to issues surrounding Brexit.
The Prime Minister is understood to have spoken to the former vice-president for around 25 minutes on Tuesday afternoon.
“I just spoke to @JoeBiden to congratulate him on his election,” the Prime Minister tweeted.
“I look forward to strengthening the partnership between our countries and to working with him on our shared priorities – from tackling climate change, to promoting democracy and building back better from the pandemic.”
A Downing Street spokesman said: “In a call this afternoon the Prime Minister warmly congratulated Joe Biden on his election as President of the United States.
“The Prime Minister also conveyed his congratulations to vice president-elect Kamala Harris on her historic achievement.
“They discussed the close and longstanding relationship between our countries and committed to building on this partnership in the years ahead, in areas such as trade and security – including through Nato.
It comes as voters in America claim the declaration that Mr Biden had won by the media was 'premature,' as President Trump is contesting the results in states where the race was close.
