Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt to go head-to-head to be next PM after Michael Gove eliminated

Boris Johnson will go head-to-head with Jeremy Hunt to become the next Prime Minister after Michael Gove was eliminated from the contest.

The Environment Secretary was knocked out in the fifth ballot of Conservative Party MPs after finishing in last place.

Boris Johnson topped the contest again and is the favourite to become the next Tory leader and be given the keys to Number 10.

The final tally was Boris Johnson 160, Jeremy Hunt 77 and Michael Gove 75.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid lost his place in the running earlier today after receiving the lowest number of votes.

Earlier today Johnson received 157 votes, Michael Gove 61, Jeremy Hunt 59 and Sajid Javid 34.

It came after outsider Rory Stewart lost his place in the contest yesterday evening.

Around 160,000 Tory party members who will now decide between the last two remaining candidates who will be the next Prime Minister.

Both men will face a number of hustings events around the country which will be attended by member of the party.

The results of the postal vote will be announced in the week of July 22.
