Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn will go head-to-head in TV debate

Jeremy Corbyn and Boris Johnson will go head-to-head in TV debates it has been announced.

The PM and Labour leader will square off on November the 19th on ITV.

Julie Etchingham will moderate the debate.

Jeremy Corbyn welcomed the announcement.

In a tweet the Labour leader said: "This is a once in a generation election.

"So it's welcome that Boris Johnson has accepted our challenge of a head to head TV debate.

The choice could not be clearer: Boris Johnson’s Conservatives protecting the privileged few or a Labour government on the side of the many."

But a Lib Dem sourcebranded the exclusion of their party leader Jo Swinson sexist.

They added: “This is a cosy stitch up between the two establishment party leaders to try to shut out the woman leader of the strongest party of Remain.

“They’re running scared, but we aren’t going to let them get away.”

Confirming the tussle ITV press tweeted: "ITV will show the first head-to-head debate between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn on 19th November.

"Details of further multi-party debate and comprehensive general election coverage in due course".

In a statement ITV said it will also broadcast a live interview based programme in which other party leaders excluded from the debate can comment.

They added: "ITV plans to hold another debate later in the campaign at which the Liberal Democrats, the SNP, the Brexit Party, the Greens, Plaid Cymru as well as Labour and the Conservative Party will all have the opportunity to be represented by their leader or another senior figure."
