Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds name son in honour of doctors who saved Prime Minister's life

Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds have named their baby boy Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson, in tribute to the doctors who saved his life.

The news of Wilfred's birth was announced on Wednesday as Mr Johnson missed PMQs to be at his partner's bedside.

Ms Symonds wrote on Instagram: “Introducing Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson born on 29.04.20 at 9am.

"Wilfred after Boris’ grandfather Lawrie after my grandfather Nicholas after Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart – the two doctors that saved Boris’ life last month.

“Thank you so, so much to the incredible NHS maternity team at UCLH that looked after us so well. I couldn’t be happier. My heart is full.”

The name, which predates the Norman conquests, is said to mean 'desiring peace'.

Ms Symonds, 32, had previously said that the baby was due in the early summer, leading to the belief that the due date was in June.

A spokeswoman for the couple said the "healthy" baby boy was born at an NHS hospital in London. Both mother and baby were said to be "doing very well".

Facing the worst health crisis for a century, the twice-divorced Prime Minister, who has fathered six children with three women, will take a "short period" of paternity leave later in the year.
