Boris Johnson accused of 'not having a clue' about Scotland's immigration needs

Boris Johnson has been accused of “not having a clue” about Scotland’s need for a tailored migration policy to grow the country’s population.

Ian Blackford attacked the Prime Minister yesterday for dismissing Scottish government proposals for a separate migration policy “before the ink was even dry”.

At Prime Minister’s Questions the SNP Westminster leader quizzed Johnson on how much he actually knew about Nicola Sturgeon’s alternative plans for a Scottish Visa scheme.

Ian Blackford challenged Boris Johnson (PA)

But Boris Johnson shot back that “the idea of a Scotland-only visa with a border at Berwick and a wall of inspection posts is absolutely fanciful and deranged.

"I doubt if he explains who is going to pay for it.”

But Blackford said no one was suggesting such a thing.

The SNP leader said: “That just confirms the Prime Minister doesn’t have a clue.”

He cited a list of expert bodies that support the Scottish government’s view.

Blackford said: “The Scottish government proposals will boost the population, grow our economy and boost public services.

"The UK government policies threaten to plunge our working-age population into decline.”

The PM replied: “We will have a points-based system that will deliver the immigration this whole country needs.

"The way to boost the population of Scotland is not to tax the population to oblivion, or fail to deliver results in schools.

"The SNP have not had a debate on education in two years.

"Today they are debating today whether or not to fly the EU flag. They should get on with the day job.”
