They are both blonde-haired, right-wing populists – and now it seems Donald Trump and Boris Johnson will have something else in common
A blimp caricaturing the Tory leadership hopeful is to be sent into the skies of London, just as one mocking Donald Trump was flown last month.
The giant inflatable depicting the probable next prime minister was unveiled by anti-Brexit campaigners on Thursday.
It will float above the capital during the anti-Brexit March For Change on Saturday after more than £6,000 was crowdfunded to create it.
It shows the former London mayor as a tousle-haired toddler wearing a T-shirt featuring a bus with “£350m” written on.
Organisers say the slogan demonstrates Mr Johnson’s infamous EU referendum campaign claim that £350m a week could be spent on the NHS if the UK left the EU was “nothing but hot air”.
Tom Brufatto, chair of Britain for Europe said: “The Boris Blimp might seem a bit of lighthearted fun but it carries a serious message. We will not allow Boris Johnson to float into No 10 on a favourable tailwind, or have the summer off, unopposed, after so much hot air on Brexit, with so much at stake.
“We’d urge everyone who’s disgusted by Boris Johnson’s views on women, ethnic minorities, the LGBT+ communities, tax cuts for the rich to join us in London on Saturday, to send him that message, loud and clear.
“His utter contempt for British democracy, signalled by his willingness to shut down parliament, must be challenged as he’s about to receive the keys to No 10.”
The Trump baby blimp was flown by the same group during the US president’s two visits to the UK, in July 2018 and June this year.
A Sadiq Khan version – showing the London mayor wearing a two-piece bikini – was sent up by pro-Trump supporters in August last year
“If people want to spend their Saturday looking at me in a yellow bikini they’re welcome to do so,” Mr Khan said at the time. “I don’t really think yellow’s my colour though.”
