Boris and Carrie Johnson housed by Tory billionaire 'in luxury Cotswolds cottage'

Boris and Carrie Johnson are said to be living in a luxury cottage in the Cotswolds after they were put up by a billionaire Tory donor.

The couple returned eight days ago from the Dominican Republic, when Mr Johnson launched a 48-hour botched comeback bid for No10.

But they still do not have a permanent home after being booted out of the Downing Street flat, which they revamped at a cost of more than £112,000.

While they wait to buy a house - reportedly in Herne Hill, south London - they are being very generously helped by Lord and Lady Bamford.

The Tory mega-donors behind the JCB and Daylesford Organic brands are worth more than £4billion and paid £23,853 for the Johnsons’ wedding.

Since the start of September they have provided accommodation for the ex-Prime Minister’s family at an estimated value of £13,500 in six weeks.

According to the Mail on Sunday, they are living on the Bamford family’s 3,500-acre Daylesford Estate in the Cotswolds.

Carrie Johnson has posted social media updates of a roaring log fire and going blackberrying with the couple’s young children Wilf and Romy.

A spokesman for Mr Johnson did not respond to requests for comment, but the MPs’ register of interests appears to suggest they could have enjoyed two of the Bamfords’ properties.

They received £10,000 worth of accommodation between September 2 and October 2 for “accommodation for me and my family”.

They also received £3,500 worth of “another property for accommodation for me and my family” from September 16 to October 15.

Rishi Sunak has snubbed the No11 flat traditionally used by Prime Ministers, despite the Johnsons’ addition of gold wallpaper.

Instead he and his wife - who are between them among the 250 richest people in Britain - will live in the smaller No10 flat, which they revamped when he was Chancellor.
