Borgue residents celebrate first day of new bus timetable

It was all aboard the 12.35pm at Borgue last week as the village celebrated the first day of a new bus timetable.

Four daily buses are now operating on the 517 Kirkcudbright-Borgue-Brighouse Bay circular route compared with just two previously.

The improved service will run as a trial for a year and, depending on demand, could be extended.

Borgue Community Council secretary Laura Moodie was among the passengers waiting at the stop outside Borgue Public Hall.

Chances to Kirkcudbright to Dalbeattie 505 bus service criticised as journey time doubles

She said: “We are delighted that people will now be able to get themselves into town more easily.

“It will also benefit people travelling out from Kirkcudbright to visit Borgue and make more of the beautiful area we
live in.

“The service connects with local core path routes and lovely woodland at Senwick.

“There’s also two different beaches on the route at Dhoon and Brighouse, the village itself and its lovely pub.”

Ms Moodie added: “The bus timetable also fit well for anyone from Kirkcudbright wanting to come out to the toddlers group then get the bus back home.”

The community council, Glenkens Transport Initiative and Swestrans drew up the trial.

It is hoped the bold move will reverse a trend of falling passenger numbers.
