Borgue Fair goes ahead after torrential rain forces fun indoors

Borgue Fair turned into a moveable feast on after torrential rain forced the annual event indoors.

However, the switch of venue did not deter the public and the village hall was a hive of activity throughout the afternoon.

And for co-organiser and Borgue Community Council secretary Laura Moodie it was a huge relief that the fair’s popularity remains undimmed.

“We had to rearrange everything at the last minute,” Laura told the News.

“We had set up marquees at the school but because of the heavy rain the field was too muddy.

“Fortunately the village hall always makes sure that they don’t book anything for the day just in case we need a plan ‘B’ - which we did.

“The sports were cancelled because of the conditions and the bouncy castle on health and safety grounds.

“But we still had the barbecue outside and the usual arts crafts, home baking, pancakes and the pet show.

“It was much busier than we anticipated.”

Pet show winner was West Highland terrier Kenzy, shown by Vanessa Enos.

The Murphy family won the children’s pet category with their guinea pig and the large dog competition.

Laura added: “It wasn’t a classic year but it just goes to show the spirit of the community when faced with adversity that we were still able to pull out a great event.

“We made about £1,500 which is really good.

“We are very pleased with that given the circumstances.”
