Border Patrol Council: Border not secure, cartels control certain sections

Border Patrol Council President criticizes Secretary Blinken and Mayorkas' meetings with Mexican officials.

The border situation continues to be a topic of concern as reports indicate that despite claims of a recent drop, the numbers are expected to increase in the coming year. President Biden's administration has been sending mixed messages regarding the security of the border, leaving many questioning the true state of affairs.

According to National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd, certain sections of the border are currently under the control of cartels, leading to a lack of security. The evidence of this includes the number of 'gotaways' - individuals who successfully enter the country without being apprehended - and the increasing presence of drugs on American streets. Judd argues that these facts clearly show that the border is not secure and even suggests that the border is open at times when it serves the interests of the cartels.

While the administration has claimed that the border is secure and not open, there seems to be a disconnect between their statements and the facts on the ground. Judd highlights the record-breaking numbers of apprehensions in recent days, with over 5,000 apprehensions by the Border Patrol and nearly 7,000 by CBP as a whole. Additionally, December numbers have reached record-breaking levels compared to previous years.

Judd also raises concerns about the lack of action from the Mexican government, stating that they have no incentive to address the situation due to the economic impact of illegal immigration and drug smuggling on their economy. This further complicates efforts to control the border and prevent the influx of migrants.

Transparency becomes a critical issue when it comes to understanding the true picture of the border situation. Despite the high number of apprehensions, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been withholding the official numbers, leading to speculation and a lack of informed decision-making. Judd believes that the government's reluctance to publish these numbers is due to political considerations.

As the border crisis continues to unfold, it is clear that a comprehensive approach is needed, combining policy changes and effective enforcement measures. Critics argue that if President Biden is genuinely concerned about this issue, he could tackle it immediately through policy changes, rather than relying solely on Congress to pass laws.

The upcoming months will be crucial in determining the trajectory of the border situation. Issues such as cartel activity, economic incentives, and government transparency will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the future of border security.
