SAN DIEGO — At least one U.S. Border Patrol agent reportedly shot a person Friday evening close to the border near San Ysidro, authorities said.

Details of the shooting were not immediately available, but it happened a little before 5:50 p.m., according to information from a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department incident log. That's when a fire engine and ambulance were dispatched to Camino De La Plaza and Dairy Mart Road.

A San Diego police officer said it happened "behind" the Las Americas Premium Outlets, off Camino De La Plaza, though he was unsure of the exact location.

Officer Robert Heims had no further details, except that San Diego police were not involved, but received a report of the shooting around 5:55 p.m. He said police officers were responding to the scene.

A Border Patrol spokesman confirmed there was an incident in the area that was under investigation, and that the agency's San Diego Section patrol chief, Agent Aaron Heitke, was expected to release more details Friday night.

Police radio traffic indicated at least one Border Patrol agent shot someone, and no agents were injured in the incident.

No other details were immediately available.
