Boozed-up Uni freshers hit streets in wild fancy dress costumes for party night

Students out on the lash caused a stir on Birmingham's infamous Broad Street last night as they donned extravagant fancy dress outfits for a special annual party.

Although the official Freshers Week ended last week, partygoers from the University of Birmingham Society kept spirits running high (and possibly dry) with their big, boozy night out.

It is now an annual rite of passage in the society's social calendar, with fancy dress highlights in previous years including wags dressing up as North Korean missiles and one woman who donned a full-size Durex condom outfit.

And this year's efforts were no less impressive, with everything from Henry hoovers to business people on Zoom video calls were mocked up for the night.

Some uni students went for more traditional costumers, such as policewomen, but others tapped into the news agenda and plumped for empty petrol pumps following the nationwide shortages this week.

One group of girls even went for that old lunchtime favourite as they all donned bright red Babybel outfits.

Another group went as a set of cutlery, complete with knife, fork and indeed spoon, while another group went as Colin the caterpillar cakes.

Last year's Medsoc event had to be cancelled due to the pandemic but with costumes including giant whoopie cushions and a group of Marge Simpson lookalikes it was clear it has returned with a bang.

The night also reportedly sells a legendary drink called Heidi, according to The Sun, which was originally made by a Birmingham medical student who now works as a GP in Stourbridge.

It is made of two shots of Archers, two of Smirnoff and one of Malibu, all in a pint glass and topped with orange or cranberry juice and lemonade.
