Boozed-up thug threatened to stab Kilmarnock police officer after assaulting Asda security guard

A man threatened to stab a police officer after assaulting a security guard at Asda in Kilmarnock.

Justin Murphy appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week and pleaded guilty to assault and behaving in a threatening manner on June 2.

The court heard a security guard in the supermarket spotted 19-year-old Murphy in the car park at around 12.45am.

Murphy, of Dumfries Road, Cumnock, entered the store and was noted to be intoxicated by the security guards.

He was asked to leave, which he did, but he remained in the car park area.

Murphy then returned to the store, approached the security guard and struck him on the right shoulder with his head.

The teenager was then asked to leave again, which he did, but police were contacted and he was later traced in the car park.

Officers asked Murphy to provide his details but he was evasive and told one of them: “I will stab you.”

He was placed under arrest and taken to Kilmarnock police office but was not formally cautioned and charged due to his intoxication.

Sentencing was deferred until next month for background reports to be prepared.
