Boozed-up Scots private school kids thrown out of plush hotel after drunken Christmas dance

Hotel bosses threw 250 private school pupils out of a black-tie Christmas dance after less than an hour over their drunken antics.

The fifth and sixth-year students from Glasgow Academy forked out £40 each to attend the bash at the city’s Grand Central Hotel.

Staff claimed one girl was sick in the lobby as the pupils left.

The hotel insisted it had been tricked into hosting, saying it had been booked under the guise of a university gathering for over-18s.

Pupils from £13,000-a-year Glasgow Academy were due to enjoy a three-course meal and dancing until 1am. The party-goers were sent packing at about 8.30pm.

Managers said a high proportion of guests were under 18 and arrived drunk, according to a statement.

The hotel said: “Management took numerous measures to prevent any alcohol consumption on the night and made attempts to identify contact details for the parents of those most affected – to no avail.

“There were incidents of vomiting and passing out and, collectively, the group of 200-plus teenagers were unmanageable due to poor behaviour.”

They said those who wanted to, could wait for parents in the lobby.

One angry mum wrote on the TripAdvisor review site: “They were fully aware of the age group of the party as the organisers regularly attended the hotel while organising the event, in their school uniforms.”

And a female pupil wrote they “were thrown out on to the streets” with “no means of getting home”.

It’s understood Glasgow Academy had nothing to do with the dance. It couldn’t be reached for comment last night.
