Boozed-up Kilmarnock yob spat in ex-partner's face after following her to town centre

A Kilmarnock man who assaulted his former partner has appeared in court.

John McBeth admitted assaulting his ex-partner by lunging at her and spitting in her face.

The 38-year-old followed the woman to Titchfield Street in the town on August 24.

The prosecutor told the court how the woman spotted her ex when she went out to the car park to collect something from her car.

The fiscal depute said: “She noticed that the accused was there and appeared he was under the influence of alcohol.

“She asked if the accused was okay and he walked towards the witness.”

He was asked to leave and did so, however, McBeth, of Rumford Place, was again spotted on Titchfield Street by the woman.

When she went out to speak with him, McBeth “lunged at the witness”, the fiscal depute added.

“Words were exchanged and the accused spat on the woman on the left side of the face.”

Police were contacted and McBeth was later traced at his home address where he was cautioned and charged.

The fiscal depute added: “The witness is asking for a non-harassment order preventing him from contacting her.”

Sheriff Michael Hanlon adjourned the case until next month for background reports to be prepared.
