Boozed-up easyjet passengers 'threw drinks over families and swore at kids' on flight to Tenerife

An easyjet flight full of holidaymakers had to be diverted after boozy passengers hurled drink at families and swore at children.

It's believed the men, said to be in their 30s, had downed a bottle of vodka before boarding the flight.

One family even had to be moved to other seats at the front of the plane after the loud-mouthed yobs were abusive towards their children.

But the flight - destined for Tenerife from Luton last Saturday afternoon - was diverted to Faro in Portugal where the men were arrested.

One eyewitness even saw the men throw punches at police who took them away, as the Mirror reports.

Roberta Carlton, 73, and husband Michael, 75, were flying to Tenerife for a 12-day holiday when the trouble started.

"The police took the two guys off the back of the plane. Someone said they had to drag them off," Roberta, from Barnet, north London, said.

"They had a fight with the people on the tarmac, threw a few punches at the policeman, and they took them way. They put them on a bus.

"When the police got on everyone cheered and when they took them off everyone cheered and clapped.

"It was awful. There were so many people with babies, it was awful for them. If you are sitting close to them it is threatening."

She told the Sun how stewards were forced to intervene when two drunken men began abusing passengers.

But Roberta, who is a retired physiotherapist, said easyJet air crew were "very, very good" in dealing with the tension.

"They should ban the sale of alcohol in airports," Roberta added.

An easyJet spokesman said: "We can confirm that the Captain of flight EZY2037 from London Luton to Tenerife on 24th August took the decision to divert to Faro due to a group of passengers behaving disruptively.

"The aircraft was met by police on arrival in Faro and the passengers were arrested before the flight continued to Tenerife.

"easyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

"Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard.

"The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet's priority."
