Bootstrap Cook author Jack Monroe leads calls to support ambitious new food project in Edinburgh

A leading anti-poverty campaigner and author has tweeted her support of an innovative new food project in Edinburgh.

Jack Monroe - who produces cookbooks based around budget recipes and store cupboard ingredients - has urged her followers to help fund Edinburgh Food Social's new Good Food Hub, a community classroom that will teach youngsters in the capital about the world of food in an attempt to help them get careers in the "diverse and exciting" hospitality and food industry.

They also make use of food from local community gardens and go into local schools to help children learn about healthy eating, improving outcomes for many young people in the city.

The Good Food Hub will also play host to a range of groups and organisations across the city to teach a huge range of individuals and community groups about food, as well as hosting community meals, Good Food Fridays and so much more.

Edinburgh Food Social launched a crowdfunder to help get the project off the ground and are currently at £17,793 of their £20,000 target with seven days left.

Monroe tweeted:

"THIS is a fantastic project that's looking for funding in Edinburgh - teaching young people to cook and providing a community space, and I would LOVE for you get it over the line in its last few days. Whether a like or a RT, please support!"

If the funding campaign is successful, the teaching hub will be located in Portobello in an old British Rail workshop, and will have facilities to teach up to 12 students at a time, deliver catering jobs and host dinners.
