Boots issues statement on jobs as half of Whiteladies Road store is taped off

Boots has confirmed employees at its set-to-close Whiteladies Road pharmacy will be offered jobs at nearby branches.

The Clifton store, near the junction with Apsley Road, will shut its doors on May 9, we revealed yesterday.

Half of the shop is taped off and shelves in that section are empty, while the shelves in the other half of the store are still filled with stock.

A Boots UK spokeswoman said: "We continually review our store locations to make sure they are where our customers need us most.

"We can confirm that we have plans to close our store on Whiteladies Road in Bristol and this is expected to happen later on this year.

"We have another store in the Clifton Down Shopping Centre which is around a three-minute walk away.

"The store team have been made aware of the plans and will be offered jobs at the nearby Boots stores.”

Shoplifting is understood to have been a serious issue for the branch recently and is thought to be a factor in it shutting down.

Customers will each be able to collect one more prescription from the Whiteladies Road shop before it closes.

Staff will inform them of their options for future prescription pickups at other pharmacies.
