Boots Island site redevelopment will help Nottingham become a key regional city

The team behind the redevelopment of Nottingham's derelict Boots Island site say the project will enhance the city and boost its economy.

The 40-acre stretch of land which will eventually house a hotel, homes and student accommodation , green space, offices and a market area.

Plans for the site, which stretches from Sneinton to London Road, have been given outline planning permission and work is now taking place to create detailed plans.

Christopher Ware, property director at Conygar, the developer behind the project, said: " Nottingham is a vibrant and creative city where several exciting developments are taking place and our plans for the site are a key part of this regeneration for the city.

"After the site received outline planning permission in April this year, we are now working closely with Nottingham City Council regarding section 106 agreements.

"The next stage is to submit detailed plans, which will then determine the next phases moving forward.

"This is a long-term phased project which is likely to take up to ten years to complete and will create hundreds of jobs in the region before and after the building work.

"Once finished it will boost the local economy and enhance Nottingham’s profile even further, as one of the UK’s key regional cities."

The Boots Island site, which lies behind BioCity and the BBC Nottingham buildings, has been derelict since it was purchased by Heathcote Holdings in 1994.

Proposals for a £900 million redevelopment were then issued in 2004, but no deals were completed, before Conygar took on the site in 2017 for a £13.5 million deal.
