Boots has a secret rewards scheme gives some shoppers extra discounts

Boots customers over the age of 60 can sign up to a rewards scheme that boosts their points and gives them extra discounts.

The "Over 60s Rewards" offer lets you collect ten points for every £1 you spend on Boots-branded items in store - more than double what's on offer from shoppers with a Boots Advantage card.

The deal covers own-brand ranges such as the Natural Collection, No7, Soltan and Tea Tree Witch Hazel.

Then there's the 150 point bonus members get when they have their first free hearing health check at Boots Hearingcare and 20% off personalised photo gifts on Bootsphoto.com and 25% off your first pair of glasses or prescription sunglasses at Boots Opticians.

All that's before we get to the exclusive in-store events - ranging from from makeovers to prize draws.

The better news for people taking the chance to do a degree as a mature student is that the deal also works with the shop's 10% student discount.

You can join up free at Boots online or in store - but you do need to be an Advantage card holder to get access.

To collect the extra ten points in store you'll also need to activate the offer in store first at Boots using your Over 60s welcome letter.

Some items are excluded from the Over 60s deals, so make sure you check out the  terms and conditions before buying .

For example, the 10 points offer excludes prescription and selected dispensary items, gift cards, Boots Opticians products and services, and Boots Kitchen Appliances.

You still get the standard Boots' Advantage points too - letting you get four points for every £1 spent in store. One point translates to a 1p to spend at Boots.
