Boots ex-employee reveals top tips for shopping 70 per cent off sale

Consumers have been grabbing bargains from high-street retailer Boots, with green-stickered gifts reduced in price by 50 per cent. However, savvy shoppers can make even bigger savings by holding out for further discounts.

The health and beauty chain usually extends their Boxing Day sale discounts to a whopping 70 per cent off just weeks after Christmas, providing the perfect opportunity to stock up on gifts for loved ones, or even treat yourself.

The date of the 70 per cent sale is usually kept under wraps and is not announced with a glitzy advertising campaign. However, having worked at Boots for four consecutive Christmases, the Manchester Evening News' Bethan Shufflebotham has provided some tips as to what to look out for.

“In previous years, it’s often launched the third or fourth week of January,” she said. “It typically launches on a Friday, and in previously, has been on the following dates:

2017 - January 20

2018 - January 19

2019 - February 1

2020 - January 31

“Due to the pandemic, the 2021 sale was cancelled and replaced with a ‘pay day’ sale, and the 70 per cent off sale launched three months later in April when lockdown restrictions were lifted.

“The Boots January 2022 sale was predicted to launch on Friday, January 28 in line with previous years, but it actually went live on March 14 - around six weeks later than usual.

“As such, this means the Boots 2023 sale could launch on Friday, January 27 2023, which is less than three weeks away. That said, there’s been no word yet from Boots on whether the sale will go ahead as normal, or will be pushed back again as it was last year.

“The highly anticipated sale includes brands such as No7, Jack Wills and FCUK, as well as selected fragrance gift sets.

“The likes of No7, Remington, Soap and Glory and the baby event brands for parents including reduced Pampers, Ella's Kitchen and Aveeno are usually included in the offers.

The store has an incredible 50 per cent off already - with great deals including up to half price on Oral B, better than half price on Philips and plenty of hair and make-up trending products with much more affordable price tags.

“The store also has a code for their latest Baby Event reductions, too, where shoppers can use the code BABY25 to save 10 per cent when you spend £25 on selected baby and child products.

“Typically, alongside the big savings come the crowds and chaos, so it's best to be prepared, have an idea of what you want and, above all, get there early.

Bethan's top tips as an ex-employee
  • Check your local stores opening times - opening hours differ from store to store, so be sure to know what time yours opens so you can arrive in plenty of time
  • Get there early - in larger stores, queues can form outside the store ahead of the doors opening
  • Visit in advance - visit your selected store a week or so in advance to scout out where products are displayed so you know where to head on the day
  • Know what you want - have an idea of what you want in your mind so you don’t waste time browsing the aisles
  • Calculate costs in advance - if you know what you want, you’ll be able to work out 70 per cent of the green sticker price ahead of checking out at the tills. This will avoid any surprises at the checkout because you filled your basket without considering the total
  • Sign up for an advantage card - the Boots advantage card offers four points for every £1 spent, which means that you can earn dozens of points during the sale which you can spend later in the year. Sign up for an advantage card here.
