Boots Advantage Card holders warned of rewards change

High street pharmacy and beauty giant Boots has issued a warning to Advantage Card holders that from May a popular discount feature is being changed. As of May 23, shoppers will have their 4p-worth of points for every £1 they spend cut to 3p.

In an email sent out to card holders, Boots said: "We're making changes to the Advantage Card terms. From May 2023, Advantage Card holders will now get 10 per cent off Boots own-brand products, and collect 3p for every £1 you spend. You'll get to keep the number of points you've already collected, and they'll still be worth the same amount."

According to the Manchester Evening News, Advantage Card holders were originally able to claim 4p-worth of points for every £1 spent in Boots stores and online. But under the new system, customers will only get 3p-worth.

To offset the change, Boots will be introducing a new incentive, giving card holders 10 per cent off own-brand products. Boots added it would offer customers more double and triple points events throughout the year, as well as other offers and opportunities to save money.

There are 6,000 products to choose from in the Boots range including health, beauty, essentials, baby, and sun care. It comes as over 70 per cent of Boots Advantage Card members regularly shop from Boots Own Brand ranges, with one in five items in their basket typically made up of Boots’ own-brand products.

Since its launch in September 2022, Boots Everyday has become a favourite with customers with sales up by 35 per cent in the first quarter of 2023. Boots has also revealed there will be more lower prices and instant savings on big-name brands with Price Advantage discounts. The company claims this will apply to more than 1,000 products each month.

Customers can still collect and save their points; Boots is updating its points offering so that for every £1 spent, customers will receive three Advantage Card points (worth 3p), rather than four, according to the Express. People of a certain age and those who are parents will also be able to collect more points than others - a move that could prove controversial with shoppers.

Over-60s will get eight points for every £1 spent on Boots' own brand products while Boots Parenting Club members will receive eight points for every £1 spent on baby products.

Students will get an added 10 per cent discount. Boots Opticians customers on a Contact Lens Rewards Plan will get an extra 10 per cent off Boots own-brand products.

Pete Markey, Bootss chief marketing officer, said: “Boots Advantage Card is one of the original and most generous loyalty programmes, and now we are making it better to fit our customers’ changing needs and the way they now want to shop.

“Customers want to be rewarded with on-the-spot lower prices and instant value. We’ve also noticed that Advantage Card members are now more frequently using their points to buy essentials instead of saving them up. We’ve listened and expanded the scheme to give more instant reward, immediate value and lower prices.”
