Bootle murder victim lived on street near to where he was found

A residential area in Bootle was put in lockdown today after Murder investigation as man dies after 'appalling act' of street violence of a man in his early 30s.

The victim - who is understood to have lived nearby - was found with life-threatening injuries in Monfa Road shortly before 2am this morning, following reports of an altercation.

He died in hospital a short time later.

Local people reacted with shock after waking up on a bank holiday morning to a large crime scene in their neighbourhood.

Residents were unable to enter or leave the cordoned-off area while forensic officers carried out a thorough search.

One Monfa Road resident said: "It's terrible. We've not had anything bad happen in this street for a long time."

But another said: "I've lived round the corner for 58 years and Monfa Road is notorious for ant-social behaviour."

A blue-and-white forensics tent was put up by police around the murder scene. An adjacent vehicle was also covered with a green tarpaulin.

At this stage the identity of the victim has not been revealed. A post mortem is due to take place this afternoon.

A 41-year-old man from Bootle was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and was taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed.

Det Chief In Gayle Rooney said: "We're currently in the very early stages of the investigation into this incident and it is vital that anyone with information that could assist our enquiries gets in touch.

"This is a truly shocking crime which has occurred in a residential area, and a man has tragically lost his life in an appalling act of violence.

"You may have witnessed part of the incident or suspicious behaviour in the area and any information, no matter how small, may prove vital to our investigation. 



"Likewise, if you have any CCTV or dashcam footage, please contact us."
