Booster rollout in full swing with 580,000 doses complete as timeline emerges

The extended booster rollout is in full swing following a decision by health officials and the government to offer access to more groups in Ireland.

An Taoiseach Micheal Martin announced last week that anyone over the age of 16 that is considered immunocompromised, working in healthcare, or more generally over the age of 50 would be offered an additional dose going forward.

As long as your final dose of the initial vaccines was no less than five months ago, you’ll be deemed eligible.

If you have had Covid-19 since you were vaccinated, you should get your booster dose at least 6 months after your positive test result.

The latest statistics published show that 580,017 third-round vaccines have been given out up to November 21.

On Sunday alone, 12,464 booster jabs were administered, 300 of which were to people considered immunocompromised.

67,274 people, who would be considered high risk, have been given a booster up to November 21, 2021.

Just days ago, Micheal Martin suggested that the 161,000 people in Ireland aged over 80 should have received their third dose by mid-November.

As for those aged 70-79, the current forecast is for them to be complete by the beginning of December while anyone in the 60-69 age group should be seen by the end of December.

Those in the 50-59 cohort should be offered their dose this side of Christmas, however, many will likely flood over into January 2022.

The public is reminded that the HSE will contact you directly for the booster shot if you fall into one of the eligible age brackets.

If you are aged 70 or over, you'll be invited for your vaccine by your GP - with some being referred to a vaccination centre.

You cannot get a booster dose at a walk-in vaccination clinic.

If you are aged 50 to 69 or are a healthcare worker, you will get a text message from the HSE with a vaccination centre appointment.
