Boost to online help in switching to solar

Australian business owners and households looking to invest in solar power can access free advice on getting the best bang for their buck.

The federal government has put almost $1 million towards upgrading a free online calculator that tailors information for individual properties.

Assistant Energy Minister Jenny McAllister says the SunSPOT calculator will help Australians lower their power bills by transitioning to solar.

Senator McAllister said Australians had already begun stepping up to reduce their carbon footprints, with one in three houses using solar energy.

The minister said the not-for-profit site, led by the University of New South Wales and Australian PV Institute, would help prevent dishonest operators from stealing and then selling personal data.

"We want to make sure consumers can proceed with confidence," she said.

The government is also developing a solar consumer guide for those looking to make the switch, which it expects to launch in mid-2023.
