Boost for Bristol City as x-rays show Andi Weimann's foot is not broken

Injured Bristol City striker Andi Weimann will undergo another scan on his foot but his injury is not as serious as first feared.

The injury was sustained in an innocuous clash with former Robin Aden Flint against Middlesbrough on Tuesday and Weimann has been replaced by Matty Taylor in the starting XI for Saturday's game against Wigan Athletic.

Weimann has become a key player for Bristol City with his hat-trick against Sheffield United last Saturday one of the highlights of the season for the supporters from Ashton Gate.

There were concerns the injury could have ruled the 27-year-old out of the remaining eight games of the season but ahead of Saturday's game Lee Johnson gave an update on the situation as he spoke to the official club channels.

"Andi’s picked up quite a bad knock, not as bad as first feared but still very swollen and very bruised," said the head coach.

"Matty Taylor’s been very patient and I’m sure he’s ready to go.

"Matty Taylor’s a bit of an idol for the fans obviously when we brought him in, which was fun for everybody!

"But he’s obviously a very good player. He’s a good finisher, he studies the opposition and their defence and their goalkeeper, so I’ve got absolutely no fear that he’ll come in and do a very good job today."

Meanwhile, there was no mention on Korey Smith who missed the visit of the Latics following feeling a 'twinge' in his knee in the 1-0 win at the Riverside Stadium.

Bristol City can keep hold of their top six position if they can make it three wins in a row against Paul Cook's team.
