Boomtown weather: Met Office issues warnings for heavy rain and strong gusts

Thousands of fans have descended on Boomtown for a weekend of music, theatre and fun.

An estimated 60,000 revellers have attended the Bristol-organised event which is hosted in Hampshire, but they could be in for a wet and windy ride.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued for the area for Friday and Saturday.

Campers will wake to a damp morning on Friday  with downpours predicted between 6am to 9am. Sunshine will  then offer festival-goers a welcome respite until around 3pm when the wet stuff will make its return.

Saturday should be drier, but gusts of 40mph could batter the venue causing trouble for tents.

A Met Office spokesperson said for Friday: "Rain quickly clearing north through the morning, but staying windy. A warm, muggy afternoon with spells of sunshine and isolated heavy showers, perhaps with hail and thunder. Strong winds later. Maximum temperature 26 °C.

"Very windy with scattered showers on Saturday. Further showers after a dry start on Sunday with winds easing. Bright with sunny spells on Monday, isolated showers later."
